Long lines ultimately affected LM bond issue

Due to the extremely long lines at the Baptist Church on U.S. 22/Ohio 3, many Hamilton Twp. voters were required to wait between two and four hours on Nov. 2. I was one of the voters who allotted at least two hours of my time (by leaving work early) and still did not get to vote! This is unacceptable.

I am very disappointed, especially not being able to cast my vote in favor of the Little Miami Schools bond issue. I feel that this bond issue may have passed if everyone had been able to wait the required (up to four hours) to vote. My husband finally gave up (due to other commitments — home and children) after waiting over three hours. How many are out there like us? Our school levy may have passed if the working parents could have all been able to stand endlessly through the lines to get in to cast our ballots.

After thinking about this, I called the Warren County Board of Elections office in Lebanon Nov. 3. I found out a third precinct was added to our site in addition to the two that were already assigned there. Their answer to the situation was that there is no way of knowing how many voters will actually turn out. I have heard for weeks the prediction of heavy voters in the news. I also heard from other voters that no long lines existed at the Morrow site down the road. Does this make sense to anyone?

Surprise! We need more voting sites and voting booths in one of the fastest growing areas in Ohio.

Since I got no definitive resolution from the Warren County Board of Elections (that any hope of a change might take place), my only alternative is to vote absentee in the future. That is the only way I can ensure that my vote will be cast and counted! Everyone that wanted to vote but couldn’t — vote absentee and pass our Little Miami Schools bond issue at the next available date! Maybe then we can actually place all of our children within our buildings instead of in trailers or the church-rented space down the street!
