Lake County: Open Thread
A preliminary report on the Lake County recount has been posted at www.VoteCobb.org. This report is not yet final, as more information is still coming in from all 88 Ohio counties. We invite you to read it and to share your experiences and comments related to the Lake County recount.
I worked as a recount observer for one day only. I observed a preselected group of machines running a tape of what votes were recorded on the machines. We,being myself as Green observer, a Republican and a Democrat observer, as a team verified that the individual votes recorded matched the number of votes the machine tallied and that those numbers matched the numbers reported on election night. We also verified that the rotation of the machines matched what was reported. It seemed to me an exercise in futility as all we proved is that the machine knows how to add. There is nothing to prove that what a voter chose is what was recorded. While we were at the warehouse where the machines are stored a call came in to alert the BOE Chairwoman that there were Democrat observers at the BOE office who wanted to examine the poll books. They were not to be permited to do so and were instructed to join the rest of at the warehouse. We were told that we would be allowed to view the books at a later time when we could all examine them together. To my knowledge that never happened.
